- I have just bought a new monitor. The information Center show the monitor can display 2560 by 1440 (60 Hz): But then when i try and make the custom resolution, I get the following message: 'The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity.' I do have a custom resolution of 256.
- I am currently experiencing a resolution issue: I have a 1st gen x1 carbon (3443-cto) which has an Intel HD 4000 IGP. It is connected to a dell U2713H monitor (native res 2560x1440) using a belkin mDP to HDMI cable. The max resolution selectable under the Intel HD graphics control panel is 1920x1080, I tried creating a custom res of 2560x1440.

Hi guys,
I've got the following laptop:
Vortex IV with the specs outlined below, a few years old with Windows 10 installed:
-CPU:Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4710MQ (2.50GHz) 6MB
-Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)
-Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M - 6.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
-Hard Disk 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
I am using this laptop with a Samsung SA27A850 27' monitor with 2560x1440p resolution (as always before). However, after a recent Windows update I keep getting an error popping on my monitor all the time that says 'Not Optimum Mode - Recommended Mode 1920x1080'.
I went to the Samsung website and it said somewhere I should have my refresh rate set at 60hz. Currently I have it set at 48hz. I'm trying to do so, but the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel gives me an error 'The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity' when I try to set the refresh rate to 60hz.
I have no idea what 'Timing Standards' are, but I get this error with all of the 4 options. 'Interlaced mode' enabled or disabled won't make a difference.
Any advise?
Thanks in advance!

I bought my XPS 13-9350 at the same time (Jul 2016) as Dr Tim, but I have only just (Dec 2017) bought myself a 2K external monitor to use with it, and now I discover this problem. In my case I cannot get the maximum display resolution to work with a 4K-certified USB-C to HDMI dongle that previously I had only been using to drive Full HD res.
